KUALA LUMPUR – Malaysia’s anti-graft chief has called for stricter and more comprehensive investigations to preserve public confidence in the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC), warning that weaknesses in investigative processes could undermine the agency’s credibility.
During his first working visit to the Selangor MACC complex, Chief Commissioner Datuk Seri Abdul Halim Aman stressed that investigation officers must ensure every case is handled thoroughly and with precision to withstand scrutiny.
“Every investigation conducted must be carried out comprehensively and thoroughly so as not to create room for any party to question the credibility of MACC investigations,” he said.
Abdul Halim also reminded officers to apply the appropriate legal provisions based on the offences reported to improve the effectiveness of prosecutions brought before the courts.
“Investigating officers are also reminded to make the correct selection of laws based on the offences reported for each case brought to court so that prosecution can be carried out more effectively,” he said.
The visit focused on reviewing operational developments, management matters and anti-corruption prevention initiatives undertaken by the Selangor MACC office.
Earlier, Abdul Halim was received by Selangor MACC director P/TPj Mohd Azwan Ramli and senior state officers before attending a briefing on the agency’s operations, manpower requirements, anti-corruption education programmes and challenges faced.
Mohd Azwan also presented operational statistics covering the past three years, including updates on several high-impact cases handled by the Selangor branch.
Beyond enforcement efforts, Abdul Halim said anti-corruption education should be intensified, particularly among younger Malaysians through awareness and outreach programmes.
“Continue efforts to instil anti-corruption values and further strengthen activities to educate children and students at both school and higher education institution levels,” he said.
He also urged management to prioritise staff welfare and cultivate a people-friendly leadership approach to ensure a harmonious working environment.
“Do not neglect the welfare of officers and staff, and maintain good relationships with them,” he added.
