KUALA LUMPUR — Malaysia is looking to build on the momentum of its growing relationship with India, with Human Resources Minister Datuk Seri R. Ramanan describing the two countries’ partnership as one that has evolved beyond diplomacy into a broader strategic and economic collaboration.

The sentiment was conveyed during a farewell courtesy visit by India’s High Commissioner to Malaysia, B.N. Reddy, who is set to conclude his diplomatic tenure in the country.

Ramanan paid tribute to Reddy’s contribution in strengthening bilateral ties throughout his posting, saying his role had been instrumental in fostering closer cooperation and trust between both nations.

“Throughout his service in Malaysia, B.N. Reddy played a major role in strengthening friendship and strategic cooperation between Malaysia and India. His efforts have not only enhanced bilateral relations but also reinforced mutual respect and trust between our two countries,” Ramanan said in a statement today.

The meeting also served as an avenue for discussions on future areas of cooperation, reflecting the increasingly significant role both countries play as comprehensive strategic partners.

Ramanan said that Malaysia and India have in recent years expanded cooperation across multiple sectors, including trade, investment, technology, education and people-to-people exchanges, with both governments seeking to deepen engagement amid shifting regional and global economic dynamics.

“Malaysia remains steadfast in ensuring bilateral ties continue to progress for the benefit of both countries and the wider region.

“Malaysia remains committed to further strengthening this robust relationship for mutual benefit, regional economic advancement and a more inclusive and sustainable future for the people of both nations,” he said.

Reddy’s departure marks the end of a diplomatic chapter that coincided with a period of expanding engagement between Kuala Lumpur and New Delhi, as both countries continue to position themselves as key partners within the Asian region. – May 26, 2026
