KUALA LUMPUR — Transport Minister Anthony Loke said he bears responsibility for ensuring immediate action is taken to prevent a repeat of the derailment incident on the Ampang–Sri Petaling LRT line.
Responding to questions from reporters at a press conference on Friday, he said: “If I resign, does that mean incidents will stop from happening? We are taking action.”
He stressed that it is his duty to ensure such incidents are addressed swiftly and thoroughly.
“That is why I take immediate action to set up a special task force, to investigate thoroughly,” the Seremban MP added, noting that all necessary support from the ministry has already been mobilised.
“However, incidents like this happen, it is a very serious matter. And we will take the necessary actions to ensure that the situation is safe,” he said.
Earlier, Loke announced that services on the Ampang–Sri Petaling LRT line, which were suspended following the derailment, are expected to resume on June 3, 2026.
He said the derailed train will first be removed before repair works on the affected track begin.
A special task force has been formed to investigate the incident, led by the ministry’s Secretary-General Datuk Seri Jana Santhiran Muniayan alongside engineering experts and rail specialists.
“The special task force is not here to blame anyone, but to look at the source of the incident and identify what actually happened,” Loke said.
The task force has been given 30 days to complete its report, which will be submitted to the ministry and made public to ensure transparency. — May 29, 2026
