KUALA LUMPUR — The screening of local film Konspirasi in cinemas nationwide has been halted following a request from its producer, according to the National Film Development Corporation Malaysia.
In a statement, Finas said it had been informed of the matter by the Malaysian Association of Film Exhibitors and Media Prima Berhad, the film’s distributor responsible for coordinating with cinema operators.
“Based on an email from the producer shared with Finas, Elepfilm Entertainment Sdn Bhd requested that the screening of ‘Konspirasi’ be halted from that date.
“Checks by Finas with the distributor and film exhibitors also confirmed that the screening halt was made at the producer’s own request and did not involve any directives from any other party,” the statement said.
Finas added that Konspirasi had received approval from the Film Censorship Board prior to being greenlit under the Compulsory Screening Scheme on May 14, 2026. The film began its nationwide run on May 21, screening across 120 cinema screens.
The corporation said it is seeking further clarification from the producer regarding the decision to pull the film from cinemas, but has yet to establish contact despite multiple attempts.
“Finas will continue to gather more details from the relevant parties and will provide updates on any developments from time to time,” the statement added.
Earlier, actress Sarimah Ibrahim raised concerns on Threads, claiming the film was abruptly pulled from all cinemas, describing the situation as unusual and unexpected. Her remarks prompted public discussion online, including comparisons between the screening durations of local and foreign films.
Konspirasi, directed by Ghaz Abu Bakar, is a political action thriller exploring themes of corruption, leaks of classified information, and operations within national enforcement agencies.
