KUALA LUMPUR – The Negeri Sembilan State Legislative Assembly will be dissolved today, Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Aminuddin Harun announced late last night.
He said the decision was made after receiving the consent of the Yang di-Pertuan Besar of Negeri Sembilan, Tuanku Muhriz Tuanku Munawir.
Speculation over a possible dissolution had intensified after Datuk Seri Aminuddin called an urgent late-night press conference. The invitation was issued by his press secretary, Ahmad Shahir Mohd Shah.
The move also came amid speculation surrounding a purported proclamation ceremony involving the Yang di-Pertuan Besar of Negeri Sembilan.
Earlier in the day, members of the media had received invitations to an event said to be taking place at Balai Rasmi Tengku Besar Tampin yesterday morning.
Speaking at his official residence in Seremban, Aminuddin said he had sought an audience with Tuanku Muhriz before the decision was made.
“I met the Yang di-Pertuan Besar at 8.30pm and Tuanku consented to dissolve the DUN (State Assembly) on Friday, 5 June 2026.
“I have followed the rules and the state constitution. After this, for the election, we will send a notice to the Election Commission (EC) and leave it to them to determine the nomination date and polling day,” he said.
The Election Commission is expected to set polling dates in the coming weeks, with all 36 seats in the Assembly up for contest.
A simple majority of 19 is required to form government, though coalitions traditionally aim for a two‑thirds margin to secure constitutional amendments and policy continuity.
The last state election in 2023 saw PH and Barisan Nasional (BN) cooperate to deliver a commanding 31‑seat supermajority, sidelining Perikatan Nasional (PN). – June 4, 2026
