RM50 mil fund set to drive TVET 2.0 and boost high-impact skills programmes

KUALA LUMPUR – The government’s decision to channel up to RM50 million towards TVET 2.0 marks a major boost for Malaysia’s skills development agenda, with the funding set to expand high-impact training programmes and address growing demand for skilled workers across strategic sectors.

Human Resources Minister Datuk Seri Ramanan Ramakrishnan said the funding would also support Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) while positioning TVET as a key pathway for talent development and career advancement in Malaysia.

Welcoming Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s announcement, Ramanan said the initiative would further strengthen the country’s skills development ecosystem to meet future workforce demands.

“This allocation reflects the Madani Government’s continued commitment to developing the nation’s future talent to be resilient, highly skilled and aligned with industry needs.

“This initiative is also in line with the aspirations of the 13th Malaysia Plan (13MP), the New Industrial Master Plan (NIMP) and the National Energy Transition Roadmap (NETR), all of which emphasise human capital development as a key driver of the nation’s economic growth,” he said in a statement today.

Earlier, Anwar, when launching the 2026 National TVET Day celebration, announced that the government had approved the use of up to RM50 million from the High-Impact Programme under PTPK to strengthen the implementation of TVET 2.0.

However, he said the funding would be subject to conditions, including close cooperation between employers, industry players and the government to ensure the success of the TVET 2.0 agenda.

“I reiterate my approval for up to RM50 million from the High-Impact Programme fund under PTPK to be used for TVET 2.0.

“There are conditions attached. Employers and industry must work closely with the government, particularly through the TVET Council, to ensure proper coordination. This will also enhance training programmes and industry exposure,” he said.

Ramanan expressed confidence that the funding would create more opportunities for youths, workers and SME entrepreneurs to upgrade their skills and participate in high-value economic sectors.

He said the initiative would also help Malaysia meet the growing demand for skilled workers, further strengthening the country’s competitiveness as an investment destination and regional talent hub.

“The fund will be channelled towards the implementation of high-impact programmes coordinated by the National TVET Council (MTVET) and the Skills Development Fund Corporation (PTPK), with a focus on strategic sectors including Electrical and Electronics (E&E), the green economy, blue economy and orange economy, which have been identified as emerging and high-potential growth areas,” he said.

He added that the RM50 million allocation must be translated into meaningful action through close collaboration between the government, industry and training institutions.

“This synergy will ensure that TVET programmes remain responsive to emerging technologies, investor requirements and the country’s demand for highly skilled talent, while accelerating the transformation of the TVET ecosystem and strengthening the Malaysia Madani talent development agenda,” he said. – June 6, 2026
