KUALA LUMPUR – Pas deputy president Datuk Seri Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man, has clarified that the party’s recent decision to end political cooperation with Bersatu does not amount to a breakdown in relations between the two parties.
In a Facebook statement shared on his official page on Wednesday, Tuan Ibrahim stressed that the move was purely political and would not disrupt personal or organisational ties between members of both parties.
“This decision was made to give PAS and Bersatu space to determine their own party directions without being bound to one another,” he said.
He also noted that previous cooperation between Pas and Bersatu had been marked by coordination challenges, particularly involving party programmes and invitations extended to leaders from different factions.
The statement cited instances where invitations to Bersatu leaders for Pas events were reportedly not well received by certain quarters within Bersatu, pointing to underlying friction between the two parties.
Tuan Ibrahim further claimed that attempts to involve other parties such as Berjasa, Pejuang and Perkasa within the Perikatan Nasional framework had faced objections, adding further strain to cooperation efforts.
“Such a situation should not have happened. Furthermore, actions by Bersatu in Perlis and Negeri Sembilan, as well as provocative statements by some of its leaders openly criticising Pas, have become increasingly frequent.”
“Pas eventually had no choice but to bring this matter to the Syura Council. Following its study and meetings, the Syura Council presented its views for consideration by the Pas Central Working Committee,” he said, adding that Pas had unanimously agreed to end its cooperation with Bersatu.
Despite the formal termination of political cooperation, Tuan Ibrahim emphasised that the decision was not intended to foster hostility or division between the two parties.
He said Pas maintained that relations and camaraderie among leaders and members of both parties should continue unaffected by the political realignment.
“I hope that we will continue to remain united for the good of the ummah,” he said.
Pas has officially ended its political cooperation with Bersatu following a central working committee meeting held at its headquarters in Kuala Lumpur on Monday night.
The decision came nearly three weeks after Pas president Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang stated publicly that the party was reviewing its relationship with Bersatu amid rising tensions and strained cooperation.
On May 22, Abdul Hadi Awang had indicated that Pas was reassessing its ties and did not rule out contesting the next general election independently without relying on Bersatu as a coalition partner.
The development marks a significant shift within Perikatan Nasional, where both Pas and Bersatu have long been key components, potentially reshaping the coalition’s future political dynamics. – June 10, 2026
