KUALA LUMPUR — The Johor state election will be held on July 11, while voters in Negeri Sembilan will go to the polls on August 1, the Election Commission (EC) announced today.
EC chairman Datuk Seri Ramlan Harun said nomination day for the Johor state election has been set for June 27, while candidates contesting in Negeri Sembilan will submit their nominations on July 18.
“The early voting date for the Johor state election is July 7, while early voting for the Negeri Sembilan state election has been fixed for July 28,” he said at a press conference in Putrajaya after a special meeting to discuss arrangements and key dates for the Johor and Negeri Sembilan state elections.
Ramlan said 2,727,926 voters are eligible to cast their ballots in Johor, while Negeri Sembilan has 889,490 registered voters.
“For monitoring purposes, 56 election campaign enforcement teams have been established in Johor and 36 in Negeri Sembilan. These teams will include representatives from the police, local authorities and the candidates,” he said.
On June 1, Johor Menteri Besar Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi announced the dissolution of the 56-seat Johor State Legislative Assembly after receiving the consent of Regent of Johor Tunku Mahkota Ismail.
This was followed by an announcement from Negeri Sembilan Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Aminuddin Harun on June 4 that the state’s 36-seat legislative assembly would be dissolved the following day after obtaining the consent of Yang Dipertuan Besar of Negeri Sembilan Tuanku Muhriz Tuanku Munawir. – June 12, 2026
