Fresh crack in PN as Bersatu opposes PCM’s admission

Bersatu has strongly objected to Parti Cinta Malaysia’s (PCM) admission into Perikatan Nasional (PN), arguing the move was rushed despite unresolved internal tensions and raising questions over the validity of the party’s application

KUALA LUMPUR – Bersatu has openly opposed the decision to admit Parti Cinta Malaysia (PCM) into Perikatan Nasional (PN), claiming the move was rushed despite unresolved internal issues within the coalition and concerns over the legitimacy of PCM’s application.

In a statement issued following an emergency meeting of the PN Supreme Council, Bersatu Vice-President Datuk Seri Ahmad Faizal Azumu said the party’s representatives had “strongly objected” to PN chairman Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin’s insistence on accepting PCM as a component party.

Ahmad Faizal said Bersatu’s objection stemmed from concerns that PN was already grappling with internal challenges involving its existing member parties.

“The objection was made on the grounds that PN is currently facing problems among its component parties following PAS’s decision to sever its relationship with Bersatu,” he said.

He added that admitting a new party led by former Bersatu members who had been expelled would only compound the coalition’s existing difficulties.

“While these issues remain unresolved, admitting a new party led by former Bersatu members who have been expelled will only add to Perikatan Nasional’s internal problems,” he said.

Bersatu also questioned the validity of PCM’s application to join PN, describing the process as irregular.

According to the party, the application was submitted by Datuk Seri Saifuddin Abdullah in his capacity as PCM secretary-general, despite official records indicating that Yeo Kwee Kwang is the party’s secretary-general for the 2026–2027 term.

The party further claimed that checks revealed inconsistencies involving PCM’s leadership records and party name.

“The leadership lineup submitted was for Parti Wawasan Negara, whereas the application was made under the name of Parti Cinta Malaysia,” Ahmad Faizal said.

Bersatu said its review found that the proposed leadership changes and the party’s name change had yet to receive approval from the Registrar of Societies (ROS).

It warned that using a party name that has not been approved by ROS could constitute an offence under the Societies Act 1966.

In its strongest criticism yet, Bersatu expressed disappointment over what it described as a hasty effort to secure PCM’s entry into PN.

“Bersatu regrets the actions of the Perikatan Nasional chairman in pressuring the Perikatan Nasional Supreme Council to hastily accept the membership of Parti Cinta Malaysia without regard for the implications of the Societies Act 1966 and the laws currently in force,” Peja said.

The dispute comes amid wider concerns raised by Bersatu over administrative matters within PN, including issues highlighted by the Registrar of Societies relating to documents submitted by the coalition.

Earlier, the PN Supreme Council approved the admission of PCM and Pejuang into the coalition as part of efforts to strengthen its political position ahead of the Johor state election.

PN chairman Datuk Seri Ahmad Samsuri Mokhtar said the decision was endorsed during the council meeting on Monday night, adding that discussions on seat allocations for the Johor polls would be finalised in the near future. – June 23, 2026
