Relationship, money issues probed in Sunway student killing: cops

Authorities say suspect knew victim and lived together as investigations into motive continue

KUALA LUMPUR — A personal dispute is believed to be among the early motives in the killing of a foreign female student found with multiple injuries at a condominium in Bandar Sunway, Petaling Jaya.

Selangor police chief Datuk Shazeli Kahar said preliminary investigations suggest that matters of the heart, as well as disagreements over daily expenses, are among the elements being examined by police, Bernama reported.

“The suspect and the victim, who were also students at the same private higher education institution (IPTS), are believed to have known each other and were in a relationship. They are also believed to have been living together. That is the motive so far, but police are still conducting investigations,” he told reporters at a press conference at the Senior Officers’ Mess of the Selangor police headquarters today.

He added that investigators believe there was no other suspect involved in the case apart from a foreign man in his 20s who was arrested at the scene on Monday.

“However, we are not ruling out any possibilities until the investigation is completed,” he said.

Police have also seized several items, including a weapon believed to have been used in the incident. A post-mortem examination is scheduled to be conducted today, while statements from neighbours in the area have been recorded to assist investigations.

On Monday, a foreign woman in her 20s was found dead with multiple injuries at a condominium in Bandar Sunway.

Petaling Jaya district deputy police chief Superintendent M. Hussin Sollehuddin Zolkifly said police received information on the incident at 11.03am, and a foreign man in his 20s was arrested at the scene to assist investigations.

In a separate development, Datuk Shazeli said investigations into a delivery rider linked to a wallet theft case at a supermarket in Semenyih are still ongoing.

He said the Deputy Public Prosecutor had issued several instructions and advice to ensure the investigation paper could be completed.

Media reports previously stated that the delivery rider, who was detained over a viral wallet theft case at a Semenyih supermarket, had been released on police bail yesterday. – June 24, 2026
