SIMPANG RENGGAM – Johor Menteri Besar Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi will face a straight fight in his bid to retain the Machap state seat in the 16th Johor State Election.

He will be challenged by Pakatan Harapan (PH) candidate Nor Hafiz Roslan in the closely watched constituency.

Earlier, returning officer Mohd Izzul Helmi Ahmad confirmed the one-on-one contest after PH candidate Nor Hafiz Roslan submitted his nomination papers at 9.03am, followed by Onn Hafiz three minutes later.

Onn Hafiz, who is also BN state chairman and the incumbent, expressed gratitude that the nomination process in Machap, as well as in the other 55 constituencies, proceeded smoothly.

“Alhamdulillah, the nomination process today went well. I was also informed that the situation in the other 55 constituencies was similarly smooth. We pray that the next two weeks of campaigning will also proceed smoothly, God willing,” he said when met at Simpang Renggam District Council Maufakat Hall here today.

He added that he would campaign vigorously over the next two weeks to secure strong support from voters in Machap.

Meanwhile, Nor Hafiz said he was grateful for the opportunity to face the Johor Menteri Besar in the contest, stressing that PH is contesting with strong determination and commitment to win the seat.

He said the coalition would present a specific manifesto for Machap and believes stronger cooperation between the state and federal governments under the Johor MADANI framework would drive development in the area.
