KUALA LUMPUR — The Sultan of Selangor, Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah, has commended Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim for reviving and strengthening the Shah Alam LRT3 Line after taking office, including reinstating five stations that had previously been cancelled.
In a Facebook post today marking the completion of the project, Sultan Sharafuddin said the rail line was the result of continuous planning and cooperation across successive administrations, rather than the achievement of any single party.
The Sultan specifically thanked Anwar for reviving and strengthening the project after taking office, including reinstating five stations that had previously been cancelled and supporting wider development along the LRT3 corridor.
“When Anwar assumed the roles of prime minister and finance minister, he agreed to continue with this project by reinstating the five stations that had been cancelled.
“He will also build affordable homes around the station areas and along the LRT3 alignment to provide greater convenience for my people.
“He also directed that no further obstacles from any party relating to this project should be entertained. I extend my thanks and congratulations to Anwar,” the Sultan said.
Sultan Sharafuddin also credited former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak for responding positively to his request for a rail connection linking Klang, Shah Alam and Kuala Lumpur, which laid the foundation for the LRT3 project.
He said he had raised the proposal during a breaking of fast event at Najib’s residence in 2015 after receiving complaints from residents, particularly housewives, about their husbands returning home late because of severe traffic congestion along the Federal Highway.

The Sultan added that Klang was also grappling with worsening congestion due to the limited number of river crossings, making travel between Klang, Shah Alam and Kuala Lumpur increasingly difficult.
“As an immediate measure to ease traffic flow, Najib’s administration abolished the Batu Tiga Toll Plaza and the Sungai Rasau Toll Plaza in 2018,” he said.
Meanwhile, Sultan Sharafuddin said the completion of the LRT3 should be viewed as the culmination of efforts by multiple administrations working towards the common goal of improving public transport and reducing congestion in the Klang Valley.
His Royal Highness also stressed that the project was not the achievement of any single government but the product of years of sustained planning, commitment and cooperation.
Looking ahead, the Sultan expressed hope that the LRT3 would ease traffic congestion, improve connectivity between Klang, Shah Alam and Kuala Lumpur, and enhance the quality of life for commuters.
The ruler of Selangor has also called on Prasarana Malaysia Berhad to ensure the line is properly maintained and operated efficiently for the benefit of the public.
The Sultan added that infrastructure projects of this scale should be recognised as collective achievements that serve the people, rather than be claimed by any individual or political party.
The Shah Alam LRT3 Line was officially launched on Sunday by Anwar at the Johan Setia depot in Klang on Sunday.
The 37.8km rail line connects Bandar Utama in Petaling Jaya to Johan Setia in Klang through 20 stations serving key residential, commercial and industrial areas along the corridor.
The project is expected to benefit around two million residents in the western Klang Valley by providing a major public transport link aimed at easing congestion and improving connectivity across Klang, Shah Alam and surrounding areas.
Passenger services began the following day, with strong public uptake reported during the line’s initial days of operation.
The first day of operations for the Shah Alam Line received an encouraging response from commuters, who praised the new rail service for its comfortable ride, modern facilities and improved connectivity across the Klang Valley. – July 1, 2026
