KUALA LUMPUR — The Education Ministry has prioritised medical treatment for the victim and psychosocial support for students and staff following a stabbing incident at Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Banting earlier today.

Education Minister Fadhlina Sidek said she had visited the school in Kuala Langat after the incident and was briefed that police had taken all necessary security measures, including detaining a suspect to assist investigations.

She stressed that the immediate focus is ensuring the victim receives proper medical care while also providing support to teachers and students affected by the incident.

“I urge the public not to spread false information or fabricate allegations as the case is currently under investigation by the police.

“May the principal, our beloved teachers, and the students be granted patience and strength in facing this ordeal,” she said in a Facebook post.

Fadhlina also expressed appreciation to all agencies involved in handling the situation, adding that further updates would be shared once confirmed by the authorities.

She arrived at the school at about 1.20pm and met the school management team to gather further details, according to Bernama.

Meanwhile, Selangor Human Resources and Poverty Eradication Committee chairman and Banting assemblyman V. Paparaidu said immediate psychosocial support and counselling had been provided to the victim, her family, and affected students.

He also called for tighter security controls at school premises, particularly at entry and exit points.

“Security for our children in schools cannot be compromised. Security personnel must remain alert at all times, monitoring everyone entering and leaving, especially during arrival and dismissal hours.

“Security at school gates must be strengthened to ensure unauthorised individuals cannot enter the premises. The safety and well-being of our children must always come first,” he said in a Facebook post, adding that schools must remain safe spaces for learning without fear or intimidation.

Kuala Langat district police chief Supt Mohd Akmalrizal Radzi said police were alerted to the incident at 9.50am.

He said initial investigations found that a Form Three schoolgirl had been stabbed with a knife by another female student. The victim is in stable condition and receiving treatment at Banting Hospital, while the suspect has been detained to assist investigations. — July 6, 2026
