KUALA LUMPUR – PAS president Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang has defended the party’s cooperation with Barisan Nasional (BN) in the upcoming Johor state election, saying the alliance was forged to prevent divisions within the Malay-Muslim political landscape and preserve stable leadership in the state.
In a Facebook post, Hadi said the Johor state election was a crucial mandate that would determine the future direction of the state’s leadership.
“The Johor State Election is a great trust that will determine the future direction of the state’s leadership.
“Leadership led by Malay Muslims must continue to be strengthened to preserve the position of Islam while ensuring justice and prosperity for all citizens regardless of race or religion,” he
Hadi said the decision for PAS and BN to work together in Johor was made after setting aside past differences in pursuit of a greater objective.
“Based on these considerations, cooperation between PAS and Barisan Nasional in Johor was established to avoid fragmentation of the Muslim political force.
“The differences that once existed have been set aside to achieve a greater goal, namely safeguarding the state’s stability and ensuring its leadership remains on the right path,” he said.
The Marang MP also urged Johoreans to exercise their voting rights responsibly, saying every ballot cast carries significance beyond electing a representative.
“Every vote is not merely about choosing a representative but forms part of the effort to safeguard the interests of religion, the nation and the homeland,” he said.
Hadi concluded his speech by praying that voters would be guided to make the best choice at the polls and that candidates contesting in the election would be granted success in serving religion, the people and Johor’s future.
The remarks come as political parties intensify campaigning ahead of the Johor state election, with PAS and BN presenting their cooperation as a platform to consolidate support among Malay-Muslim voters while maintaining that the administration would continue to serve all communities. – July 10, 2026
