KUALA LUMPUR – Prime Minister and Pakatan Harapan (PH) chairman Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim congratulated Barisan Nasional (BN) on securing the people’s mandate in the Johor state election, while urging PH candidates to continue serving the public regardless of the outcome.
In a Facebook post, Anwar said the conclusion of the election marked the beginning of a new phase focused on fulfilling responsibilities and working towards a more prosperous Johor.
“Congratulations to Barisan Nasional for the mandate given by the people of Johor. May this trust be carried out in the best possible manner for the benefit of the state and its people.
“The election and democratic process have now come to an end. It is time for us to move forward, prioritising service and responsibility to the people and working together to build a more prosperous and developed Johor.
“My highest appreciation to all voters and the people of Johor who fulfilled their responsibilities, including the machinery that worked hard and gave their best effort.
“Our resolve is clear, all HARAPAN candidates, regardless of whether they won or lost, are called upon to continue serving and bringing the people’s voices forward.
“The Federal Government also remains committed to ensuring Johor’s development agenda and the well-being of its people continue to be strengthened and improved, Insya-Allah.”
Meanwhile, Pakatan Harapan has won eight state seats in the 16th Johor state election based on unofficial results as of 11.30pm, said PH Presidential Council member Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari.
According to Bernama, the Selangor Menteri Besar, who is also PKR Election Co-director, said the figure was based on updates from the Election Commission (EC), including the Puteri Wangsa seat won by former education minister Dr Maszlee Malik.
“So far, six are from DAP, one from PKR and one from Amanah (Parti Amanah Negara). We are waiting for confirmation on another DAP seat and two PKR seats.
“Although we are slightly behind in terms of the percentage of unofficial results, it is better for us to wait for the official results,” he said at a press conference at the PH Command Centre here tonight.
Also present were Amanah deputy president Datuk Seri Dr Mujahid Yusof Rawa, Amanah vice-president Datuk Dr Mohd Hatta Ramli and Amanah Communications director Khalid Abdul Samad.
Amirudin said PH appreciated all Johoreans who exercised their voting rights, while congratulating candidates who were successfully elected.
“The voice of the people of Johor will drive PH to carry out its responsibilities in Johor with integrity and credibility by highlighting the people’s concerns and offering solutions to unresolved fundamental issues.
“The pulse of the people will never be taken lightly, but instead will serve as a benchmark in planning future steps,” he said.
He added that PH would continue to play the role of a constructive Opposition by closely monitoring the Johor government’s policies and administration to ensure they remained aligned with the interests of the people.
Amirudin also thanked the EC, security forces, media personnel, volunteers and PH election machinery for their efforts throughout the election process, from nomination day until polling day.
The Johor state election saw 172 candidates contesting, with PH and BN each fielding 56 candidates, followed by Perikatan Nasional (PN) with 33, Parti Bersama Malaysia with 15, Parti Ikatan Demokratik Malaysia (MUDA) with four, Parti Orang Asli Malaysia and Parti Sosialis Malaysia with one candidate each, as well as six Independent candidates.
Before the dissolution of the state assembly on June 1, BN held 40 seats, followed by PH with 12, PN with three and MUDA with one seat. – July 11, 2026
