IPOH – Communications Minister Datuk Seri Fahmi Fadzil has reminded the public to exercise greater caution when using artificial intelligence (AI) technology to produce content related to the Jalur Gemilang to ensure that the design and elements of the national flag are displayed accurately.
He said content creators must ensure the use of AI does not result in errors, including inaccuracies involving the flag’s 14 stripes, which are a key feature of the Jalur Gemilang.
“We also encourage the public, as part of the Fly the Jalur Gemilang campaign, to take some time to learn the proper etiquette for displaying the Jalur Gemilang, always exercise caution when generating AI content to ensure there are no errors, especially the omission of any of the 14 stripes on the Jalur Gemilang, as this is very important.
“We will also collaborate with MPI (Malaysian Press Institute)) and the Malaysian Media Council to engage media organisations to ensure that throughout National Month, any representation of the Jalur Gemilang, especially those generated using AI, is produced accurately,” he said.
Fahmi said this after attending the launch of the 2026 National Month and Fly the Jalur Gemilang campaign (MPBKKJG 2026), held in conjunction with the 2026 National Day and Malaysia Day celebrations, at the Sultan Azlan Shah Ministry of Health Training Institute (ILKKM SAS) in Tanjung Rambutan here today.
The event was officiated by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, and it was also attended by National Unity Minister Datuk Aaron Ago Dagang and Perak Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Saarani Mohamad.
Asked about the action to be taken if errors occur in AI-generated content or the display of the Jalur Gemilang, Fahmi said the ministry would first adopt an advisory approach by asking those involved to make the necessary corrections.
“Yes, there are specific laws governing such matters, but our first step will be to advise the parties involved. We will try to contact anyone who has mistakenly produced content or displayed the flag incorrectly and advise them to rectify the mistake.
“If the error is not corrected for any reason, we will then consider what further action is appropriate, but we will begin by advising them,” he said.
On the HKHM 2026 celebrations, Fahmi encouraged Malaysians to fly the Jalur Gemilang from today until at least Sept 16 through the Fly the Jalur Gemilang campaign to foster the spirit of patriotism in residential areas, villages and government premises.
He said this year’s National Day celebration will be held in Putrajaya, while Malaysia Day will be celebrated in Sarawak, with the exact venue still under discussion.
