KUALA LUMPUR – A late-night fire completely destroyed a hardware store near the Selangor Wholesale Market here on Thursday night, with flames spreading to adjacent commercial premises.
Firefighters were alerted to the blaze around 11:00 PM and quickly dispatched units to the scene to control the situation.
Selangor Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) Operations Division Assistant Director Ashrul Riezal Asbar confirmed the incident, stating that response teams were actively working to prevent the fire from spreading further.
“Additional fire engines are currently en route to assist. We do not have a complete status report yet, but no casualties have been reported so far,” Ashrul said when contacted.
At least three fire engines were deployed in the initial response. However, operations were complicated by the presence of several gas cylinders stored inside the hardware shop, creating a significant hazard and risk of explosion.
As emergency personnel worked to contain the inferno, business owners and workers from neighboring shops were seen frantically evacuating inventory and valuables as a precautionary measure.
Investigations into the cause of the fire and the full extent of the damage are ongoing. – July 24, 2026
