JEMPOL – Kedah Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor’s recent remarks on racial issues reflect the true nature of the PAS leadership, which frequently plays on racial sentiments to divide society, says Pakatan Harapan (PH) communications director Datuk Seri Fahmi Fadzil.
Fahmi stressed that such politics should be rejected, urging politicians instead to foster unity and embrace the nation’s diversity. His statement reflects a fairly widespread attitude within PAS.
“Previously, we have seen statements on the immigrant issue from the PAS president himself.
This is not good politics, which should promote unity, understand differences, and strive to unite the people. Not to divide or separate the people,” Fahmi said when met by reporters at the Wayang Pacak programme in Taman Saujana Rompin, near here, last night.
The Communications Minister noted that with Malaysia’s long history of independence and the recent launch of National Month, leaders should focus on unifying the public rather than stoking division.
“So I hope Datuk Seri Sanusi takes a lesson and changes his attitude. But I believe that will not happen,” he added.
Sanusi, who also serves as the PAS election director, reportedly claimed that Malaysia remains the sole Tanah Melayu for Malays, whereas other ethnic groups have original homelands such as China and India.
He made the remarks during a Perikatan Nasional (PN) Ceramah Perdana ahead of the Negeri Sembilan state election on July 24.
Call for apology over MB candidate claims
Addressing comments by Majlis Amanah Rakyat (Mara) chairman Datuk Seri Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki—who suggested DAP secretary-general Anthony Loke could become Menteri Besar if incumbent Datuk Seri Aminuddin Harun loses—Fahmi urged Asyraf to apologize.
He pointed out that under the Negeri Sembilan Constitution, the Menteri Besar post is strictly designated for a Malay individual.
“I hope he apologises to all the people of Negeri Sembilan for the mistake he has made,” Fahmi said.
KJ’s Malay voter claim dismissed
Fahmi also brushed aside former Rembau MP Khairy Jamaluddin’s projection that PH would only secure around 10% of Malay voter support in Johor, emphasizing that state dynamics vary significantly.
He expressed confidence in Aminuddin’s state administration, citing its proven track record of caring for all communities regardless of race.
Responding to Umno deputy president Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan’s suggestion that the 16th General Election (GE16) could take place by the end of the year, Fahmi clarified that the topic was never brought up in cabinet meetings.
Describing Mohamad’s remarks as a personal opinion, Fahmi affirmed that Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and the cabinet remain focused on stabilizing the economy and navigating global geopolitical challenges rather than early elections. – July 26, 2026
