SEREMBAN — Vote counting for the 16th Negeri Sembilan state election began at 6pm today following the closure of all polling centres across the state.
The counting of early and ordinary ballots is being carried out by Election Commission (EC) officials at eight official vote tallying centres, with representatives from contesting parties and independent candidates present to oversee the process, Bernama reported.
Early voting, conducted on July 28, saw 22,339 eligible voters involved, with 16,467 casting their ballots in person. This comprised 11,293 military personnel and their spouses, as well as 5,174 police personnel and their spouses.
The remaining early voters cast their ballots through postal voting.
Polling officially concluded at 6pm, with all 401 polling centres across Negeri Sembilan closing as scheduled.
As of 4pm, voter turnout stood at 65.38%, with 562,133 out of 859,760 registered voters having exercised their right to vote.
The EC had earlier projected voter turnout of between 72% and 75%, with preliminary results expected to be announced as early as 10pm.
The state election sees 103 candidates contesting 36 State Legislative Assembly seats. Pakatan Harapan (PH) is fielding candidates in all constituencies, while Barisan Nasional (BN) is contesting 25 seats, Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) 24, and Perikatan Nasional (PN) 11.
Four Independent candidates are also in the race, while Barisan Jamaah Islamiah Se-Malaysia (Berjasa), Parti Orang Asli Malaysia (ASLI) and Parti Sosialis Malaysia (PSM) are each fielding one candidate. — August 1, 2026
