KUALA LUMPUR — The federal government will continue providing support and cooperation to the newly formed Negeri Sembilan government to ensure the state’s continued progress and the well-being of its people, said Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.
Anwar, who is also Pakatan Harapan chairman and PKR president, conveyed his congratulations to Barisan Nasional (BN) following its victory in the Negeri Sembilan state election, while acknowledging the participation of voters in the democratic process.
On social media, Anwar also expressed his appreciation to the people of Negeri Sembilan for placing their trust in PH and former Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Utama Aminuddin Harun, who led the state administration for eight years.
“Congratulations to Barisan Nasional for the mandate given by the people of Negeri Sembilan. My highest appreciation goes to all voters who have earnestly taken part in the democratic process that has just concluded.
“I also extend my appreciation to all the people of Negeri Sembilan who placed their trust in Pakatan Harapan and Dato’ Seri Utama Aminuddin Harun as Menteri Besar for eight years.
“Alhamdulillah, throughout that period, Pakatan Harapan left behind a legacy of excellent administration based on good governance, stability and development that benefited the people. May this legacy continue to be strengthened for the progress of Negeri Sembilan.
“The Federal Government will continue to provide support and cooperation to the new Negeri Sembilan government for the well-being and prosperity of the state and its people as a whole.”
BN and Perikatan Nasional (PN) are set to form the new Negeri Sembilan government after securing a two-thirds majority in the state election, based on unofficial results.
BN chairman Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said the unofficial tally showed BN won 18 seats while PN secured seven, giving the coalition partners a combined total of 25 out of 36 state seats.
“We will have follow-up discussions between the two coalitions on the formation of the new state government based on the results announced,” he told a press conference at Wisma UMNO Negeri Sembilan.
Asked about the appointment of the incoming menteri besar, Ahmad Zahid said the public should wait for BN-PN leaders to be granted an audience by Yang di-Pertuan Besar Negeri Sembilan Tuanku Muhriz Tuanku Munawir.
Meanwhile, PH election director Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari said the coalition’s leadership would take collective responsibility for its defeat in the state election.
He stressed that no individual, group or faction would be blamed for the outcome, saying accountability would be shared across the coalition’s leadership structure.
“As the leaders of Pakatan Harapan, we all take collective responsibility. It is not about pointing fingers at any person, group, community or any clique.
“We will take responsibility collectively, from the top leadership to the grassroots of the organisation,” he told reporters at the PH command centre.
Based on unofficial results, PH won 11 of the 36 seats it contested, while BN and PN secured 18 and seven seats respectively. – August 1, 2026
