KUALA LUMPUR – Pakatan Harapan (PH) remains open to political cooperation with other parties or coalitions, provided such arrangements are guided by political stability and the interests of the people, said PH Presidential Council member Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari.
The PKR vice-president said PH’s approach was based on ensuring that any cooperation upheld these two key principles, regardless of the political party or coalition involved, Bernama reported.
“Cooperation with any party, not just Bersatu or Perikatan Nasional (PN), can be considered, provided the underlying principles remain political stability and the well-being of the people,” he said.
Amirudin, who is also Selangor Menteri Besar, was speaking to reporters after officiating the Ecology International Conference II (HEIC-II) 2026 here today.
He also dismissed claims that Selangor PH had already established any form of cooperation with Bersatu, saying no discussions or decisions involving the party had taken place.
The potential for any political cooperation, he said, must be assessed carefully at the central leadership level, taking into account factors such as the timing of elections and prevailing circumstances.
“Of course, I cannot decide on my own, as I also share responsibility with the central leadership.
“So, if there are discussions (at the Selangor PH level), I will bring the matter to the central leadership. What exists currently are merely external ideas or views, which may stem from political realignments at the national level or in the context of a state election,” he said.
Last Friday, media reports suggested that Selangor PH was open to exploring the possibility of working with Bersatu, particularly at the state level.
The possible cooperation is seen as an effort by both parties to maintain their relevance and strengthen their positions ahead of upcoming electoral contests, including the next general election and the Melaka state election. – August 10, 2026
