KUALA LUMPUR — Malaysians will receive 10GB of free internet data under the Rahmah Rebate Incentive in conjunction with the 2026 National Day and Malaysia Day celebrations.
Communications Minister Datuk Seri Fahmi Fadzil said the initiative would be carried out in collaboration with five telecommunications service providers — CelcomDigi, Maxis, TM, U Mobile and YES.
“5GB of free data will be provided on National Day, Aug 31, 2026, while another 5GB will be provided on Malaysia Day, Sept 16, 2026,” he said in his speech at the 2026 National Day and Malaysia Day (HKHM) Sponsorship Contribution Handover Ceremony.
Fahmi said the redemption method and validity period would be announced by the respective telecommunications companies, subject to their terms and conditions.
He added that the initiative would give eligible Malaysian prepaid and postpaid users a total of 10GB of free data, split between the two national celebrations.
The free data offer is part of the government’s broader Rahmah Rebate Incentive announced in conjunction with the 2026 Merdeka and Malaysia Day celebrations.
Fahmi also said the 2026 celebrations had secured RM48.63 million in sponsorship from 139 strategic partners, representing an increase of more than 118% from RM22.3 million last year.
Of the total, RM2.7 million was contributed in cash, while RM45.93 million came in the form of goods and services.
Fahmi said all cash contributions would be channelled into the Merdeka Secretariat Trust Account to fund preparations for the celebrations, while donated goods would be distributed to members of the public attending the Merdeka celebration at Dataran Putrajaya on Aug 31 and the Malaysia Day celebration at the Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK), Sarawak, on Sept 16.
“I give my assurance that every sen and every form of contribution received will be managed and utilised transparently, prudently and responsibly to support the organisation of the main and side activities of HKHM 2026,” he said.
He also said the Finance Ministry had approved the 2026 Merdeka and Malaysia Day celebrations as a national-interest project under subsection 44(11C) of the Income Tax Act 1967.
This means individuals and companies making contributions in the form of goods between April 1 and Sept 16, 2026, may claim tax deductions of up to 10% of their aggregate income for the current year of assessment, subject to a RM15 million limit. — August 12, 2026
