PUTRAJAYA – DAP has decided to remain in the unity government after delegates voted overwhelmingly in favour of continuing its participation in the administration.
The motion to stay in government received a majority of 1,857 votes at the party’s National Conference 2026 held at the Putrajaya International Convention Centre (PICC) today.
DAP secretary-general Anthony Loke said the result provided a clear mandate to the Central Executive Committee (CEC) and party leaders serving in the government to continue their work.
“Almost 88% of the delegates who were present voted to remain in the government until the end of this parliamentary term.
“This is a mandate to the CEC and the party leaders representing DAP in the government to continue serving and to pursue the reform agenda,” he said during a press conference following the annoncement of the results.
Loke stressed that the reforms sought by DAP should not be viewed as the party’s agenda alone, but as commitments agreed upon within Pakatan Harapan and the unity government.
Among the matters highlighted were the separation of the Attorney-General and Public Prosecutor roles, limiting the Prime Minister’s tenure to two terms and strengthening efforts to combat corruption.
“These are not DAP’s agenda alone. These are agendas that have been jointly agreed upon in Pakatan Harapan and the unity government,” he explained.
Loke said the party would bring the concerns and aspirations raised by delegates back to the government through Cabinet channels, including issues involving the implementation of e-invoicing and the review of the RON95 subsidy quota, particularly for Sabah and Sarawak.
He also acknowledged that some delegates had expressed critical views and wanted the party and government to be more decisive and assertive.
“We respect those views. But as a party, we also have to abide by the majority view.
“The majority has made its decision, and with a convincing majority of 88%, I hope those who disagree can also respect the views of the majority,” he added.
On the issue of the proposed Royal Commission of Inquiry (RCI) on cooperate Mafia, Loke said DAP would maintain its position and hoped to convince Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim to revisit the matter.
He said the party would continue playing a constructive role within the government despite differing views among its grassroots.
“We will continue to play our role constructively within the government,” he said.
Earlier, 14 speakers representing DAP from across Malaysia’s states voiced their support for the party to remain in government during the debate session.
The speakers argued that leaving the administration at this stage would mean abandoning the mandate given by voters, while stressing that DAP must continue pushing for reforms, accountability and better delivery.– August 16, 2026
