KUALA LUMPUR — Alam Maritim Resources Bhd said today that its group managing director and chief executive officer Datuk Azmi Ahmad has been remanded to assist the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) in an ongoing investigation.
The offshore services company, which provides support services to Malaysia’s oil and gas sector, stressed that the remand order should not be interpreted as evidence of any misconduct by Azmi.
“The board has taken the necessary measures to ensure continuity of the group’s operations and will make further announcements should there be any material development,” the company said in a filing with Bursa Malaysia.
Azmi’s detention comes as MACC intensifies investigations linked to governance and investment issues involving Lembaga Tabung Haji (TH), following the release of the Royal Commission of Inquiry (RCI) report in July 2026.
The RCI report highlighted several governance weaknesses at TH between 2014 and 2020, including concerns over profit reporting practices and investments that resulted in significant financial losses.
Among the findings was that TH should have reported a net loss of RM1.4 billion in 2017, instead of declaring a profit of RM3.4 billion. The report recommended forensic audits into several investments and ventures, including Alam Maritim/TH Marine, TH Plantations, TH Properties, Felda Global Ventures (FGV), and hotel projects in Saudi Arabia.
MACC has since detained several individuals, including former TH executives, company directors and business associates, as part of investigations into alleged document falsification, questionable transactions and other financial irregularities.
On Aug 15, seven individuals were remanded, including a shipping company chief executive and four former senior TH executives, over investigations linked to a Saudi hotel lease deal valued at SR2.49 billion. Earlier this month, TH’s former chief executive officer and chief financial officer were also detained in connection with a RM370 million plantation share acquisition.
Alam Maritim’s involvement in joint ventures connected to TH has placed the company among entities being scrutinised as MACC expands its probe into the agency’s past investments. – August 17, 2026
