KUALA LUMPUR – Former prime minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob is scheduled to appear at the Kuala Lumpur Sessions Court tomorrow to face a charge under the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) Act 2009.
His lawyer, Datuk Amer Hamzah Arshad, confirmed the matter when contacted by the media today.
Based on a check of the court system, the case involving the 66-year-old Bera MP is scheduled to be mentioned before Judge Suzana Hussin at 9am.
Ismail is expected to face a charge under Section 36(2) of the MACC Act 2009 for allegedly failing to comply with a notice requiring him to declare his assets.
The proceedings were initially scheduled for Aug 7 but were postponed after Ismail Sabri was admitted to the National Heart Institute (IJN) following health complications while recording his statement with the authorities.
The Sessions Court granted the postponement after taking into consideration the former prime minister’s medical condition.
“My client experienced heart problems while recording his statement with the MACC on Aug 6,” said Amer Hamzah in relation to the previous application to defer the proceedings.
He explained that Ismail Sabri had experienced possible arrhythmia and was scheduled to undergo a pacemaker procedure.
Previously, Ismail had been called several times by the MACC to assist investigations into his asset declaration.
The probe also resulted in several searches being carried out at residences and offices believed to have been used as “safe houses”.
Separately, in an investigation into alleged corruption and money laundering that began in February 2025 following the arrests of four of his senior officers, the MACC confirmed that it had seized RM170 million in cash involving various foreign currencies, as well as 16kg of pure gold bars estimated to be worth RM7 million. – August 26, 2026
