Ex-pm pleads not guilty: Ismail Sabri charged over undisclosed RM14.7m, foreign millions, gold stash

Former premier faces up to five years in jail for allegedly failing to comply with an MACC asset declaration notice involving 10 currencies and physical bullion

KUALA LUMPUR – Former prime minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob pleaded not guilty at the Sessions Court here today to a charge of failing to comply with an asset declaration notice issued by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC).

The Bera MP was charged under Section 36(2) of the MACC Act 2009 for allegedly failing to declare a massive multi-currency fortune alongside physical precious metals.

According to the charge sheet, the undisclosed assets include:

Cash Fortunes: RM14.7 million, S$6 million, US$1.46 million, 3 million Swiss francs, 12.2 million euros, 363 million Japanese yen, £50,250, NZ$44,600, 34.8 million UAE dirhams, and A$352,850.

Precious Metals: Five gold bars, one silver bar, and one gold coin.

The alleged offence took place at the MACC headquarters in Putrajaya on Feb 7 last year.

If convicted, Ismail Sabri faces a maximum jail term of five years, a fine of up to RM100,000, or both.
