KUALA LUMPUR – The family of elite firefighter Mohd Fakhrul Munir Mohd Isa, 44, is refusing to give up hope after he went missing in the deadly flash floods and landslides that struck Rasuwa, Nepal.
His brother, Mohd Saiful Munir, 46, said the family remains positive, believing the communication blackout is due to the disaster.
“We have not stopped praying that Loe and his group will be found soon. But we also have to accept whatever comes, even if things take a turn for the worse,” he told reporters today.
Saiful stressed that Loe’s trip was not unusual, describing him as a passionate climber who frequently travelled abroad.
“You could say Nepal is like his second home… he goes there about three to five times a year,” he said, adding that Loe is also an avid cyclist.
The Port Klang Fire and Rescue Station officer last spoke to his brother a week ago before the expedition. Based on their planned route, the group was likely in the valley area when disaster struck.
“We’re treating this as a disaster where he’s essentially trapped and unable to reach out. We will only rely on official information from the authorities,” Saiful said.
JBPM director-general Datuk Seri Nor Hisham Mohammad yesterday confirmed that Fakhrul Munir and deputy director Mohd Sani Harul were among 10 Malaysians en route to Everest Base Camp who remain uncontactable. – August 28, 2026
