KUALA LUMPUR – The Selangor Government has declared Oct 26 as a replacement public holiday across the state to mark the 25th anniversary of the reign of Sultan Selangor Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah.
State Secretary Datuk Dr Ahmad Fadzli Ahmad Tajuddin said the replacement holiday was announced as the main celebration and special public holiday on Oct 25 falls on a Sunday, Bernama reported.
“As the date falls on a Sunday, the following day, Monday, Oct 26, has been declared a replacement public holiday,” he said at a press conference held at the Sultan Salahuddin Abdul Aziz Shah Building (SSAAS) here today.
He said the Silver Jubilee celebrations, scheduled from Sept 28 to Nov 1, were being organised as a gesture of loyalty, respect and appreciation from the state administration and the people towards Sultan Sharafuddin’s 25-year reign.
“Throughout the celebrations, 20 official programmes and events have been lined up, covering community affairs, religious activities, environmental sustainability, infrastructure development and sports.
“The programmes involve the concerted efforts of state and federal government departments, local authorities (PBT), statutory bodies, state government-linked companies (GLCs) and non-governmental organisations (NGOs),” he said.
Ahmad Fadzli said the highlight of the celebrations would be held on Oct 25, coinciding with the anniversary of Sultan Sharafuddin’s accession to the throne, and would feature three main ceremonies.
The events are the Inspection of the Guard of Honour accompanied by a 21-gun salute; the Proclamation of Titles and Oath-Taking Ceremony; and the presentation of state awards.
He said various community and welfare initiatives had also been arranged, including the Menyantuni Anak-Anak Yatim Kembara Semenanjung programme, the opening of the Autism-Friendly Park, the Kita Run and a royal tea reception.
“Religious programmes will also be held, including a yasin recitation and doa selamat, as well as the Multaqa and Forum Perdana Ehwal Islam,” he said.
Ahmad Fadzli added that heritage and historical documentation initiatives would include the launch of a special commemorative envelope and stamps, commemorative coins, and the book ‘Menjulang Takhta’.
For sports and talent development, he said the planned programmes included the opening ceremony of the Selangor Polo and Equestrian Club, the Sultan of Selangor Silver Jubilee Cup Polo Championship and an under-15 football league match.
Meanwhile, he said the state government remained committed to upholding prudent governance and fully respected Sultan Sharafuddin’s decree that the celebrations be conducted in a modest and responsible manner, with meaningful impact while avoiding unnecessary wastage.
“The state government prays that all the programmes planned will proceed smoothly and be blessed, and become a historic occasion that further strengthens the bond between the ruler and the people in this beloved state,” he said. – September 11, 2026
