All eyes on Istana Negara as AG, Hannah arrive for crucial meeting

FT Minister Hannah Yeoh and the AG arrive at the palace early Friday amid intense speculation over former PM Najib Razak's pardon application

KUALA LUMPUR – Federal Territories Minister Hannah Yeoh and Attorney General Tan Sri Dusuki Mokhtar were seen being driven into the gates of Istana Negara shortly before 8am today.

This morning’s events come after Yeoh denied as fake, a viral letter bearing her signature on Najib’s house arrest.

Yesterday, the media reported that the Federal Territories Pardons Board is scheduled to reconvene today to discuss the pardon application of former Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak, after it was deferred last week.

The board is reportedly set to convene with Najib’s application being the sole item on the agenda.

However, there has been no official confirmation regarding the meeting as of the time of writing.

Addressing the circulating controversy, Yeoh firmly clarified that a viral document claiming to show an approved house arrest order for Najib—complete with her signature—was entirely fake.

She urged the public to stop spreading the forged document and emphasized that official administrative matters follow strict constitutional processes.

The ongoing developments follow Najib’s ongoing efforts to seek executive clemency. The former prime minister is currently serving his sentence at Kajang Prison following his conviction in the RM42 million SRC International Sdn Bhd corruption case.

In February 2024, the Pardons Board halved his original 12-year jail sentence to six years and reduced his RM210 million fine to RM50 million.

The current proceedings remain closely watched as the Pardons Board considers his latest petition. – September 18, 2026
