KUALA LUMPUR — The Pakatan Harapan (PH) Presidential Council has expressed firm support for Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s position, as well as the advice given by the Attorney General and the Federal Territories Minister to the Pardons Board today.
In a statement, the council stressed that no one was above the law and that those convicted of offences must serve their sentences in accordance with the law and the Federal Constitution.
“The Presidential Council firmly stands by the position of the Prime Minister, as well as the advice from the Attorney General and the Federal Territories Minister to the Pardons Board today,” it said.
“The Presidential Council also stresses that no one is above the law. Anyone who has been convicted must serve their sentence in accordance with the law as stipulated in the Federal Constitution.”
The council said it remained committed to combating corruption, advancing the Reform Agenda and ridding the country of corruption and misappropriation.
“The Presidential Council is determined to continue efforts to combat corruption, uphold the Reform Agenda and cleanse the country of elements of corruption and misappropriation.”
The statement comes after former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak was granted a conditional pardon by the Yang di-Pertuan Agong Sultan Ibrahim, allowing him to serve the remainder of his sentence under house arrest until Aug 23, 2028, subject to payment of a RM50 million fine.
The decision was made at the 64th meeting of the Pardons Board for the Federal Territories of Kuala Lumpur, Labuan and Putrajaya at Istana Negara today.
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said earlier that the decision did not weaken the government’s commitment to fighting corruption and abuse of power, while stressing that all ongoing corruption cases must proceed according to the law. – September 18, 2026
