KUALA LUMPUR – In an unprecedented political purge, the Yang di-Pertuan Besar of Negeri Sembilan, Tuanku Muhriz Tuanku Munawir, has immediately revoked the appointments of all state executive council (Exco) members after they were found to have violated their oath of office.
The decisive action follows actions and statements made by the council members on September 15 that directly breached their pledge of loyalty to the Ruler and the Royal Institution.
In a late-night statement issued Sunday by Istana Besar Seri Menanti Comptroller Dato’ Azizi Mohamad Ali, the palace confirmed that each affected Exco member had been individually served with a letter of dismissal.
The Exco line-up—who only took and signed their solemn oath of allegiance on August 7—had sworn to safeguard the state Constitution and uphold the authority of the Dewan Keadilan dan Undang.
“However, they have breached that oath by their actions and statements on September 15,” the statement read.
Under Article XXXVIII(5) of the Laws of the Constitution of Negeri Sembilan 1959, all Exco members—excluding the Menteri Besar—serve strictly at the pleasure of the Yang di-Pertuan Besar.
Following the midnight purge, Menteri Besar Datuk Ismail Lasim has been ordered to immediately present a fresh slate of candidates for the Ruler’s consideration and consent, in line with Article XXXVIII(2) of the state Constitution.
Tuanku Muhriz directed the Menteri Besar to ensure state governance remains uninterrupted, emphasizing that public interest and welfare must be fully protected throughout the transition.
