KUALA LUMPUR – Perikatan Nasional (PN) does not rule out the possibility that the show-cause notice issued against the coalition was the “result of a malicious agenda” and political pressure targeting PN from parties within and outside the coalition, alleged PN secretary-general Datuk Seri Takiyuddin Hassan.
Takiyuddin said the notice was served on PN on two consecutive days, Sept 22 and 23, which coincided with the announcement and effective date of the dissolution of the Melaka State Legislative Assembly (DUN).
He said the coalition took note of the decision by the Registrar of Societies Malaysia (RoS) regarding the notice but disagreed with the basis of the decision and was taking immediate steps through available legal processes to defend its founding objectives and political agenda, which are supported by its members and supporters.
“PN confirms that it received a notice under subsection 13(2) of the Societies Act 1966 for the purpose of the Registrar of Societies (RoS) cancelling PN’s registration after PN is given 30 days to show cause.
“It is confirmed that the proposed cancellation is related to a complaint by Bersatu against PN concerning a meeting dated July 16, 2026.
“Following the above notice, PN also received an order under subsection 13(2A) of the Societies Act 1966 ordering the suspension of all its activities until a date to be determined,” he said in a statement today.
Earlier, RoS said the notice issued against PN was not a decision to cancel the party’s registration, but was intended to give PN an opportunity to respond to the complaint lodged by Bersatu.
RoS said the notice under subsection 13(2) of the Societies Act 1966 [Act 832] was issued on Sept 22 and PN was given a reasonable period to respond.
Following the notice, RoS said a suspension order had also been issued under subsection 13(2A) of Act 832, suspending all PN activities with effect from yesterday.
Previously, RoS confirmed receiving an official complaint from Bersatu, including an allegation that the party had not been involved in the PN Supreme Council meeting on July 16.
On Tuesday, Melaka Chief Minister Datuk Seri Ab Rauf Yusoh announced that the Melaka DUN would be officially dissolved the following day to pave the way for the Melaka state election.
Elaborating, Takiyuddin urged PN members and supporters to remain calm as the matter was being handled as best as possible.
“PN will provide the relevant information and documents to the public transparently and keep everyone informed of developments from time to time,” he said.
He also issued an immediate gag order prohibiting any party from making statements on behalf of PN, except the PN chairman and secretary-general. – September 24, 2026
