KUALA LUMPUR – Former Dewan Negara president Tan Sri Dr Mohd Rais Yatim is expected to be charged at the Ayer Keroh Sessions Court on Friday.
According to the court’s e-filing system, Rais is scheduled to appear before Sessions Court Judge Raja Noor Adilla Raja Mahyaldin, The Star reported.
No details have been released on the charges he is expected to face.
Rais, who is currently the chairman of Parti Wawasan Negara, confirmed with FMT that he would be facing charges but declined to elaborate on the allegations.
The development comes two months after the Negeri Sembilan palace revoked two state honours previously conferred on Rais.
In July, state secretary Datuk Mohd Zafir Ibrahim announced that Yang di-Pertuan Besar Negeri Sembilan Tuanku Muhriz Tuanku Munawir had ordered the withdrawal of the Darjah Seri Utama Negeri Sembilan (SPNS) and Darjah Dato’ Setia Negeri Sembilan (DSNS) awards with immediate effect.
“Duli Yang Maha Mulia Yang di-Pertuan Besar Negeri Sembilan telah menitahkan penarikan balik kurniaan Darjah Seri Utama Negeri Sembilan (S.P.N.S) (2001) dan Darjah Dato’ Setia Negeri Sembilan (D.S.N.S) (1979) kepada Tan Sri Dr Mohd Rais Yatim, berkuat kuasa serta merta,” he said.
The SPNS carries the title Datuk Seri, while the DSNS carries the title Datuk.
Mohd Zafir said the decision was made to preserve the dignity, honour and reputation of the Negri Sembilan royal institution.
“For the record, Mohd Rais, who is currently the chairman of Parti Wawasan Negara, had served as the Negri Sembilan Mentri Besar from July 12, 1978, to April 29, 1982.”
Rais later served as Dewan Negara president from 2020 to 2023 and held several Cabinet positions, including Foreign Minister, Information Minister, Culture, Arts and Heritage Minister, as well as Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department. – September 24, 2026
