KUALA LUMPUR – Perikatan Nasional (PN) will submit its official explanation to the Registrar of Societies (RoS) within the next two weeks regarding issues that led to the suspension of the coalition’s activities.
PN secretary-general Datuk Seri Takiyuddin Hassan said the coalition is in the final stages of preparing its response and will hold further discussions to meet the 30-day deadline stipulated by the RoS.
He added that PN’s top leadership sent an official letter yesterday seeking a special meeting with the RoS director-general to obtain further clarification.
“The top leadership of PN sent an official letter yesterday to request a special meeting with the RoS director-general to provide and obtain further clarification on the actual situation,” he told reporters at the Cakna Rakyat Carnival in Bunut Payong today.
The RoS issued a suspension order against all PN activities effective September 23 under Subsection 13(2A) of the Societies Act 1966 (Act 832).
The notice requires PN to explain a complaint lodged against it by its own component party, Bersatu.
Asked whether PN faces potential deregistration, Takiyuddin, who is also the Kota Bharu MP, said the coalition cannot predict the outcome.
“If our explanation satisfies the RoS, it may not be cancelled. If the explanation is not satisfactory, it may be cancelled. That’s all.
“We cannot predict the motive behind the action, but the show-cause notice was issued on the exact day the Melaka Chief Minister announced the dissolution of the State Legislative Assembly (DUN),” he noted.
Bersatu has since defended its decision to lodge the complaint, stating the move was necessary to uphold the coalition’s constitution and strengthen accountability.
Bersatu secretary-general Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali confirmed the party submitted the written complaint to the RoS on August 11, citing several institutional breaches under PN’s current leadership.
According to Azmin, the complaint raised concerns over Bersatu’s exclusion from a PN Supreme Council meeting on July 16, alongside questions regarding the party’s ongoing standing as a component member of the coalition. – September 26, 2026
