KUALA LUMPUR — Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has ordered for a state funeral to be accorded to Tun Dr Siti Hasmah Ali, a beloved former first lady and trailblazer for Malaysian women doctors.
“I have directed the Chief Secretary to the Government and the Armed Forces Chief of staff to assist with the arrangements and facilitate the funeral protocols for in accordance with a state funeral,” Anwar said.
“On behalf of the Madani Government and the entire people of Malaysia, I express my condolences and sympathy on the passing of Tun Dr Siti Hasmah Mohd Ali.
“The country will always remember her and cherish her contributions.”
Anwar also said his thoughts and prayers are with Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad and the entire family.
According to details provided to the media, Dr Siti Hasmah will be laid to rest at Tanah Perkuburan Presint 20 in Putrajaya this afternoon.
Prior to that, funeral prayers will be recited for her at Masjid As Syarif, Taman Sungai Besi Indah, Kuala Lumpur.
Following her passing at the National Heart Institute (IJN) this morning, her body is currently lying in repose at her residence in The Mines, Seri Kembangan, Selangor.
The wife of former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad died peacefully at 9.20 am at IJN, confirmed by her son Tan Sri Mokhzani Mahathir. She is survived by Dr Mahathir and seven children. – September 28, 2026
