KUALA LUMPUR – Transport Minister Anthony Loke has confirmed that he submitted his resignation letter to Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim yesterday, with the decision set to take effect once former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak begins serving the remainder of his sentence under house detention.
Loke said Anwar had asked him to continue carrying out his duties as Transport Minister for the time being, but his resignation would come into effect once Najib leaves prison to serve the remaining period of his sentence at home, local media reported.
“When Datuk Seri Najib returns home, then my resignation will take effect.
“This resignation is the party’s decision based on DAP’s response and position on the issue of Datuk Seri Najib Razak’s house detention, which we do not agree with,” he said after launching Malaysia Maritime Week 2026 here today.
Loke said he personally handed the resignation letter to Anwar during a discussion between them on his decision to step down from the Cabinet.
He added that he would continue serving as Transport Minister for now, and no replacement has been appointed for the post.
Loke also reiterated that his decision to resign remained consistent with DAP’s position on the matter.
On Sept 19, Loke offered to resign as Transport Minister following DAP’s stance on the conditional pardon granted to Najib, after a meeting of the party’s Central Executive Committee (CEC).
He said other DAP ministers and deputy ministers would remain part of the Unity Government. – September 29, 2026
