MCMC gets complaint over sexual AI content allegedly involving students, teachers

Commission says it will work with relevant agencies to investigate the alleged creation and circulation of AI-generated sexual material in a Kedah school

KUALA LUMPUR – The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) has received a complaint over the alleged misuse of artificial intelligence (AI) to create and circulate sexual images and videos involving students and teachers at a school in Kedah.

In a statement today, MCMC said the creation or dissemination of sexual content using AI that could jeopardise the safety, dignity and wellbeing of victims, particularly children, could result in enforcement action under Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998 (Act 588), Bernama reported.

It also said licensed service providers have obligations to protect children under Section 18 of the Online Safety Act 2025 (ONSA).

“If convicted, a fine of up to RM500,000 or imprisonment for up to two years, or both, may be imposed.

“For offences committed against children, the penalty may include imprisonment for up to five years, subject to the provisions of the law in force,” MCMC said.

The commission said the matter also involved several agencies, including the Communications Ministry, Home Ministry, Education Ministry and Royal Malaysia Police, each of which has jurisdiction over aspects of the case.

“MCMC will cooperate with the relevant parties in the investigation,” it said.

MCMC also urged the public not to create, upload or redistribute sexual content involving or purportedly involving children, warning that doing so could cause further harm to victims and interfere with investigations.

Those with relevant information have been advised to report it to the authorities through the appropriate channels. – October 8, 2026
