KUALA LUMPUR – Petronas is expanding its investment in Phase 2 of LNG Canada, while 71 petroleum discoveries in Suriname and potential development opportunities in Turkmenistan are expected to strengthen Malaysia’s position in the global liquefied natural gas (LNG) supply chain under Budget 2027.

Tabling the budget in the Dewan Rakyat today, Prime Minister and Finance Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said collaboration had also opened up potential development opportunities at Turkmenistan’s Galkynysh gas field, one of the world’s largest natural gas fields.

Anwar said the full transfer of ownership of the Pengerang Integrated Complex to Petronas would further strengthen the facility’s role as a strategic national asset.

He said the move would allow Petronas to optimise its value chain towards higher-value products while leveraging the technology and expertise of global partners.

The transfer would also position Pengerang as a key hub for fuel supply security amid uncertainties in global markets. – October 9, 2026
