KUALA LUMPUR – No Malaysian casualties have been reported following a deadly attack on King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh and a projectile impact near King Fahd International Airport in Dammam on Saturday.
The assault on King Khalid International Airport resulted in 12 fatalities and left 309 people injured, according to official figures released Sunday by Saudi Arabia’s General Authority of Civil Aviation.
The dead include four Saudi citizens, two Bangladeshi nationals, and one individual each from the United States, Egypt, Jordan, Syria, Palestine, and Sudan.
Following the strikes, Saudi aviation authorities issued an immediate temporary suspension of all operations at King Khalid International Airport, stranding thousands of international travelers.
Consular lifeline extended to stranded citizens
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Wisma Putra) confirmed that the Embassy of Malaysia in Riyadh is actively contacting stranded citizens and providing emergency consular aid across the kingdom.
“Malaysians residing in, travelling through, or planning to travel to Saudi Arabia are strongly urged to remain vigilant.
“In view of the ongoing flight disruptions, those with upcoming travel plans are advised to verify their flight status directly with their respective airlines before proceeding to the airports,” the ministry said in a statement issued on Sunday.
Wisma Putra cautioned travellers to prepare for extended delays or flight cancellations, follow official safety directives, and register immediately on the e-Konsular portal (https://ekonsular.kln.gov.my) for real-time advisories.
