Most schools in Kuala Lumpur and Selangor will also resume classes, but closures remain in several districts as air quality stays unhealthy

KUALA LUMPUR – Schools in Melaka, Negeri Sembilan, Pahang and Putrajaya will resume normal operations tomorrow as air quality improves, while some schools in Kuala Lumpur and Selangor will remain closed due to the haze.

The respective education departments announced the latest decisions following air quality monitoring, with some areas recording a sustained decline in Air Pollutant Index (API) readings.

In Kuala Lumpur, the Federal Territory Education Department (JPWPKL) said schools under the Sentul and Keramat District Education Offices (PPDs) would reopen after API readings in the areas remained at moderate levels for three consecutive days.

The latest reading at the CA15W Batu Muda station stood at 84 as of 2pm today.

“The latest reading was at a moderate level, with an API of 84 recorded at the CA15W Batu Muda station as of 2pm today. As such, the implementation of Home-Based Teaching and Learning (PdPR) and the Work From Home (WFH) directive for these areas has been terminated,” JPWPKL said in a statement.

However, schools under the Bangsar/Pudu PPD will remain closed until further notice, as the API at the CA16W Cheras station reached 152 at 2pm, indicating unhealthy air quality.

Home-based teaching and learning will continue for affected pupils, while teachers and Implementing Group Staff (AKP) will remain under the work-from-home directive.

In Selangor, the state Education Department (JPNS) said schools under the Hulu Langat, Gombak and Petaling Perdana PPDs would remain closed based on the latest API readings.

Schools in the state’s other districts will operate as usual tomorrow.

“Teachers and parents are advised to follow official updates from the authorities on developments in air quality and relevant school operation directives.

“Further information on school operations and reopening will be announced through the official channels of the MOE and JPNS,” it said.

In Melaka, all schools will reopen after API readings across the state remained below 100 as of 2pm, according to the Malaysian Air Pollutant Index Management System (APIMS).

Alor Gajah recorded an API of 91, while Bukit Rambai registered 94 and Bandaraya Melaka 96.

The Negeri Sembilan Education Department also confirmed that all educational institutions under the Education Ministry would resume normal operations tomorrow, based on the latest air quality monitoring.

It advised pupils experiencing respiratory symptoms, as well as those in high-risk groups, to wear face masks as a precaution.

In Pahang, all schools will operate as usual, with the state Education Department continuing to monitor haze conditions and API readings through the respective PPDs.

Meanwhile, the Putrajaya Federal Territory Education Department (JPWPP) said schools under its administration would reopen after API readings remained below 150.

It said air quality had improved consistently over the past three days, with the API in Putrajaya recorded at 70 as of 2pm today.

Parents and pupils are advised to follow official announcements from their respective schools and education departments for any further changes to school operations. – October 11, 2026
