KUALA LUMPUR – A 16-year-old Form Four student will be charged in the Batu Pahat Magistrate’s Court this morning for the murder of his classmate, 16-year-old Irene Sofiya Mohd Khairool Faisal, inside a school hall in Yong Peng on October 3.
According to BH, the e-Judiciary system shows the suspect is scheduled to face Magistrate Mustaqim Sukarno at 9 am.
He will face a charge under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder, which carries the mandatory death penalty or imprisonment upon conviction.
The decision to charge the suspect comes after the investigation papers were reviewed by the Johor State Legal Advisor’s Office and handed over to the prosecution for further action.
The victim, affectionately known as Fiya, was found unconscious and covered in blood inside the school hall at approximately 5:50 PM, and was later pronounced dead at the scene.
The tragic discovery unfolded after the victim—an only child—failed to return home following extra classes that ended at 5 pm.
Concerned when they noticed her motorcycle still parked on school grounds, friends visited Fiya’s grandmother to check on her whereabouts. Upon learning she had not come home, her grandmother, aunt, and friends rushed to the school to search for her.
The frantic search ended when friends discovered Fiya lying inside the school hall bearing dried blood stains and bruises believed to be from a physical assault.
Police swiftly detained the victim’s male classmate in connection with the incident. He has been held on remand since October 4, with his remand period expiring today. – October 15, 2026
