KUALA LUMPUR – A total of 14.2 million Malaysians have registered for MyDigital ID as of Oct 7, 2026, with the platform recording 82.75 million login transactions since 2024.
Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said the system currently handles over 200,000 transactions daily, supported by its integration across more than 200 government and private sector digital applications.
He said this in a written parliamentary reply to Datuk Mas Ermieyati Samsudin (PN–Masjid Tanah), who asked the Prime Minister for the latest registration figures and details on security measures safeguarding personal data against cyberattacks and leaks.
Multi-layered security
Ahmad Zahid assured that MyDigital ID relies on robust cryptographic mechanisms to guarantee confidentiality, integrity, and user data protection.
These security features include:
Public Key Infrastructure (PKI): Utilises cryptography to verify identities during transactions and prevent unauthorized access or tampering.
SHA-256 Hashing Algorithm: Adheres to the “privacy by design” principle, ensuring confidential data is never stored in plain text. The algorithm is listed and approved under the National Trusted Cryptographic Algorithm List Scheme (MySEAL), regulated by the National Cyber Security Agency (NACSA).
Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA): Requires users to verify through multiple authentication steps before granting access, significantly reducing risks of fraud, identity theft, and impersonation.
Future-proofing against quantum threats
Looking ahead, Ahmad Zahid noted that the government is preparing for long-term cyber resilience by planning for Post-Quantum Cryptography (PQC) adoption to counter emerging threats from quantum computing.
This transition will follow a crypto-agility approach, allowing seamless updates to new cryptographic standards in accordance with international protocols and the National Cryptography Policy.
“The government remains firm in its commitment to ensuring the security and protection of Malaysians’ digital identities,” he said, adding that the platform remains central to building public trust in online public and private sector services.
MyDigital ID serves as Malaysia’s single verification platform for individuals accessing online government portals and participating commercial platforms securely. – October 15, 2026
