SHAH ALAM — The Sultan of Selangor, Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah, is unwell after contracting the Influenza A virus, resulting in the postponement of ceremonies in conjunction with His Majesty’s Silver Jubilee.
In a statement, Istana Alam Shah said Sultan Sharafuddin has been advised to rest for five to seven days to ensure a full recovery.
The palace said the infection was identified by His Highness’s two personal physicians, Datuk Dr. Anuar Onah and Datuk Dr. Tan Hui Meng, after Sultan Sharafuddin developed a high fever and physical weakness yesterday morning.
The physicians believe His Highness likely contracted the virus while attending public events and interacting with the public, including in open-air settings, Istana Alam Shah’s statement said, Bernama reports.
“The Sultan of Selangor’s health is gradually improving, although His Royal Highness is still experiencing a fever.
“In light of this, the attending physicians have advised His Royal Highness to rest and refrain from attending any functions for the next five to seven days to ensure a full recovery,” the palace said.
As such, the Istiadat Menjunjung Duli and the Investiture Ceremony for Selangor State Awards originally scheduled for tomorrow, have been postponed to November 7.
These ceremonies are to be held in conjunction with the Silver Jubilee of the Sultan of Selangor’s reign.
Istana Alam Shah said all relevant parties take note of this change in date, and expressed appreciation for their cooperation and attention.
“Let us join in prayer, asking Allah SWT to grant a speedy recovery to His Royal Highness the Sultan of Selangor, and to bestow upon him lasting health and well-being,” the statement added. — October 31, 2026
