KUALA LUMPUR – Lead counsel for former Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak has dismissed a report that his client’s RM50 million fine will be paid today.

“This is news to me because I have yet to receive any instructions from Datuk Seri Najib on this,” said Tan Sri Shafee Abdullah.

He also said as the payment has to go through him.

“If Umno has raised the money then they would contact me to transfer the sum and for me to do the process of paying the fine ” he told Scoop.

NST and Berita Harian quoting sources, reported today that Najib’s representatives are ready to make the payment, which is a reduced amount from the RM210 million in his SRC corruption cases, following a decision of the Pardons Board on Sept 18.

The settlement of the fine will pave the way for Najib to serve the remainder of his six year jail term under house arrest.

However Shafee said to date there has been no developments on that front.

“If it is true that’s good but I am still awaiting instructions and only I can facilitate the payment of the fine,” he added. – November 4, 2026
