KUALA LUMPUR – Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has called on Malaysians to strengthen national unity and embrace the values of mutual respect, understanding and compassion as the country celebrates Deepavali tomorrow.

In a Facebook post, Anwar expressed hope that this year’s Festival of Lights would bring renewed enthusiasm for fostering more open, noble and progressive thinking, while uplifting the people and strengthening national harmony.

He said Deepavali symbolises the triumph of light over darkness, good over evil, and the power of knowledge to free humanity from the shackles of ignorance and arrogance.

“In a multiracial society rooted in diverse cultures and traditions, the values of mutual respect, understanding and acceptance of differences must continue to be reinforced.

“Let this celebration serve as a platform to strengthen unity, bridge gaps between communities and foster values of compassion and concern for those in need,” he said.

Anwar also extended his Deepavali greetings to all those celebrating the festival, wishing them happiness, peace and prosperity.

“Deepavali Nalvaalthukkal,” he said.

Deepavali, also known as the Festival of Lights, will be celebrated by the Hindu community nationwide tomorrow. – November 7, 2026
