Early bird: Selat Klang incumbent submits nomination despite forgotten MyKad

Datuk Abdul Rashid Asari's aide rushed to his house 10 minutes away to collect document

KLANG – Being an early bird paid off for Selat Klang incumbent Datuk Abdul Rashid Asari, even though he left his MyKad at home prior to submitting his nomination documents.

However, staying less than 10 minutes away from the nomination centre at the district and land office, here, also helped.

His aide managed to collect Rashid’s MyKad in time for the submission deadline.

“I left it in my work shirt,” Rashid told Scoop after completing the nomination process.

Meanwhile, he is confident that he can retain his seat.

“I’ve done my work for the past five years, I think I can get good support from the rakyat. So far, the support is on our side so I believe I can retain the seat,” said the Perikatan Nasional candidate.

He is going up against Barisan Nasional’s Datuk Roslee Abdul Hamid, who is banking on early preparations to give him an advantage.

“I don’t mind the three-way fight. The way we campaign is effective and we will win. I’m not worried about going up against an incumbent because I’m also from the area and I stay here too.”

Another candidate gunning for the seat is Parti Rakyat Malaysia’s Datuk Mohamad Ezam Mohd Nor.

Polling day is on August 12. – July 29, 2023
