All my lawsuit proceeds will go to the people: Amirudin

The caretaker Selangor MB vows to challenge caretaker Kedah MB Sanusi

KUALA LUMPUR — Caretaker Selangor menteri besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari has pledged to distribute all proceeds from the lawsuit against Datuk Seri Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor to the people of Selangor.

As Amirudin’s letter of demand had lapsed the 48-hour deadline without receiving an apology from Sanusi, the Sg Tua candidate said that he can now seek legal action against the caretaker Kedah menteri besar for his alleged slander.

“Praise be God, I will proceed with my lawsuit process to protect the (unity government’s) dignity,” he said in his speech at Sungai Tua tonight.

“If I win this lawsuit, God willing. I want to return it to the people for their well-being,”

Amirudin also took a swipe at Sanusi for his often-vulgar way of speaking and called on the people to teach the latter a lesson.

“Let him know (that) just because he wears a kopiah (skullcaps) and (speaks) in the name of Islam, (it does not mean) he can slander at will,”

“Don’t let (him think that) just because he is supposedly (the) ‘best’, he can slander, insult, and curse as he pleases,” he said.

On August 2, Sanusi alleged that Selangor Incorporated had sold a 55% stake of its wholly-owned unit to a business corporation, revealed to be Berjaya Land Bhd.

Subsequently, Amirudin issued a letter of demand to Sanusi over claims made by the latter that the Selangor government had given a parcel of state-owned land to a private corporation for free.

In his demand, Amirudin stipulated a compensation of RM10 million for disseminating false information that could threaten his reputation and the Selangor state government, apart from an apology and guarantee against further repetition of the claims.

Berjaya Group Founder Tan Sri Vincent Tan and Berjaya Land Bhd also issued a statement saying they had demanded a public apology and RM200 million in compensation from Sanusi for his alleged defamatory remarks against the company.

Meanwhile, Amirudin also claimed that Perikatan Nasional is getting desperate as the clock ticks before polling day, as he said they did not manage to secure 16 seats in Selangor – let alone 20. — August 11, 2023
