KUALA LUMPUR – A whopping RM2.47 billion will be allocated to implement housing projects under Budget 2024, said Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.
In tabling the 2024 supply bill, Anwar, who is also finance minister, said this includes special guarantee funds amounting to RM1 billion to encourage competent developers to revive certain identified abandoned projects.
Other allocations made under the housing budget include RM546 million to continue 36 People’s Housing Programmes (PPR), where 15 of them are expected to be completed next year to benefit 5,100 new residents.
Another 14 PPRs will continue to be built, comprising a total of 3,500 houses, with an allocation of RM358 million.
The government will also allocate RM460 million to provide assistance to 65,000 impoverished people living in rural areas, in order for them to build new houses or repair those that are dilapidated.
In addition, another RM100 million will be used to maintain low- and medium-cost stratified housing nationwide, both public and private. This includes repairing water tanks, roofing and wiring systems, as well as the installation of live-circuit cameras.
Meanwhile, Anwar also mentioned that the government has mobilised a special team under the Local Government Development Ministry this year to solve late or abandoned private housing project issues.
He added that as of August, over 28,000 housing units have been restored, at about RM23.37 billion in gross development value. – October 13, 2023
