This comes after he criticises President Gustavo Petro's comments on Israel-Palestine conflict

TEHRAN – The Colombian Foreign Ministry yesterday demanded the Israeli ambassador “apologise and leave” after he criticised President Gustavo Petro for his comments on the Israel-Palestine conflict, Iranian news agency cited media reports.

Petro has shared several posts criticising the Israeli regime on social media since the conflict began on October 7.

The Colombian president, in one post on X, formerly known as Twitter, accused the Israeli regime of using language about the people of Gaza similar to what the “Nazis said of the Jews,” France 24 reported.

In response to Petro’s comments, the Zionist regime announced on Sunday the suspension of “security” exports to Colombia.

Following the regime’s move, President Petro threatened to cut diplomatic ties with Israel, stressing that his country would never support the “genocide” of the Palestinian people.

“If we have to suspend foreign relations with Israel, we will suspend them. We don’t support genocides,” the Colombia Reports quoted him as saying yesterday.

The president also sought solidarity from other Latin American governments, according to the report. – October 17, 2023
