Facepalm: DAP MP slams Lau’s U-turn response after being shooed from Penang ceramah

If you value your dignity, follow Penang PAS' advice, leave coalition, Teresa Kok says

KUALA LUMPUR – DAP’s Seputeh MP Teresa Kok has given Gerakan president Datuk Dominic Lau a dressing-down over his “facepalm” response after being shooed from a Perikatan Nasional (PN) ceramah event in Penang recently.

In a lengthy tirade on Facebook today, Kok admonished Lau, who is vying for the Bayan Lepas state seat, for initially disproving reports that he was told to leave the event by Penang PAS secretary Iszuree Ibrahim.

“Two days (after the incident), as Gerakan and PAS scrambled for damage control, (Lau) sheepishly doubled back after earlier denying that he was snubbed by PAS.

“(Lau) now says that he has accepted PAS’ apology and (has) asked for everyone to move on,” Kok said, labelling Lau’s response to the “publicly humiliating and belittling treatment” as a “face-palm moment”.

Addressing her criticism directly to Lau, Kok said Iszuree has yet to express remorse for his actions. Instead, PAS secretary–general Datuk Seri Takiyuddin Hassan was the one who issued an apology yesterday on behalf of the party.

“Dominic Lau, an insult of this nature by PAS (towards) you is an insult to all Gerakan members, and a half-baked apology is no apology.

“Heed the call by Penang PAS and leave the (PN) coalition if you still have any thread of self-respect and dignity left,” she urged.

Earlier today, Scoop reported a PN central committee member as saying that Takiyuddin’s apology was all an act as Penang PAS remains racist and non-inclusive, with its chief going so far as to signal that it will not help Lau campaign for the Bayan Lepas state constituency. – August 5, 2023
